Before and after
From the vendors' own pages and recent user reports:
If you edit PDF text, fill complex forms or need e-signatures every day, a paid PDF suite is worth it. For merging, splitting, reordering and rotating pages, a limit is mostly friction.
Three reasonable paths
- Pay for a PDF suite. Makes sense for heavy editing, OCR or signatures.
- Use the built-in tools you have. macOS Preview can merge and reorder pages; some printers' 'print to PDF' can combine files.
- Use a browser-only PDF tool. Files never leave your computer, so there's nothing to count and no server to upload to.
That last option is Pagewright
Merge, split, reorder, rotate and extract pages, and turn photos into a PDF. No daily cap, no upload, no account. Works offline once the page has loaded.
Pagewright doesn't edit the text inside a PDF and doesn't do OCR. It works on whole pages.
Practical tips
- Very large files depend on your computer's memory: split huge jobs into a few batches.
- For confidential documents, a tool that never uploads is the safer default.
