The free plan, before and after
According to Clockify's own help page on the update, workspaces on the Free plan lost these features. The changes were announced in April 2026 and applied when each workspace's trial ended.
Clockify says the limits cover the cost of supporting free users, and that time tracking itself stays free. For a solo freelancer, though, the features that turn hours into an invoice are the ones that moved.
Three reasonable paths
- Stay and upgrade. If you rely on team features, integrations or syncing across devices, a paid plan may be the simplest choice.
- Move to another hosted tracker. Check the free plan carefully. Toggl, for example, relaunched as Toggl 2.0 in September 2026 with a smaller free plan (3 users), and its free tier does not include billable rates.
- Use a tool with no server at all. If you work alone and mostly need rates, reports and exports, a browser-only tracker can't have its free plan changed, because there is no plan and no server.
That last option is Hourwright
Hourly rates per client and per project, rounding, reports for any date range, CSV export, printable timesheets and a client link. Free, with no account, and it works offline. Your data stays in your browser.
Keep your history
Export what you have before you move. Clockify says historical entries remain accessible on the free plan and that PDF exports stay free. CSV and Excel exports now need a paid plan or a trial.
Hourwright starts fresh rather than importing from other tools, so you can keep your old export as an archive and track new work in Hourwright.
